DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday categorically said that mass upsurge took place across the country.
The spokesperson for the party came up with the observation in a press briefing on the 60-hour hartal in the afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Thousands of people came out to street, observed hartal which is mass upsurge.”
He also claimed that at least 12 people were killed and over 1200 leaders and activists were arrested across the country.
Fakhrul Islam also alleged that the then opposition Awami League had enforced 173 days hartal for the caretaker government.
The opposition BNP leader at least five people were killed and dozens of people injured in separate hartal violence on Sunday, the first day of 18-party’s 60-hour hartal.
