SYLHET: Police, in a special drive, detained four leaders and activists including president of district unit of Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, from Upashahar area of the district early Thursday.

The detainees are SM Manwar Hossain, president of District Unit Shibir, Manjur Alam, Secretary of MC College Unit of Shibir, Shibir activist Sebul Ahmed and unidentified one.

Sources said police held them from a flat of three-storied building in the area at around 12:30am.

Confirming the matter, Sylhet Metropolitan Police of Shahparan Thana Officer-in-Charge Shailen Chandra Das told banglanews, “The detainees were wanted in several cases.”

Metropolitan police sources also said the drive would be continued to arrest wanted other Shibir activists.
