DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Saturday said the politics of the country could not develop the fate of the common people.
The former president of the country came up with the observation while addressing a programme, marking the 8th founding anniversary of SAARC, arranged by SAARC Cultural Society, at the High Court Bar auditorium in the afternoon.
He said, “Politics has not been able to make people dream and develop the fate of them but politicians have changed their fate. The society is creeping towards destruction due to the failure of politics.”
The former military president also said that “Sisa, Phensedyl or Yaba tablets invaded the country because we have lost the direction”.
He urged to revivify Rabindranath, Nazrul, Shamsur Rahman.
Ershad also said, “I have initiated the use of Bengali language in the parliament. I had introduced leave on Pohela Boisakh.”
Mentioning him as the founding president of SAARC, Ershad said to enliven SAARC once again, if chance is given to him.
Later, he recited one of his poems on SAARC.
With president of the organization Syed Abu Hossain Babla, also presidium member of Jatiya Party, in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by secretary general of Jatiya Party ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader and general secretary of SAARC Cultural Society journalist Sujon Dey.
