Dhaka: About a thousand students and as many guardians were eagerly waiting with hopes and anxieties on the premises of city’s traditional school, Ideal School and College, beside the capital’s business heartland Motijheel.

It is about 12:30pm when Principal of the institution Dr Shahan Ara Begum came with a sheet of paper, surrounded by her students. She spoke out—and all burst into jubilation over an outstanding SSC result, laden with top scorers with GPA-5 stand.

“They danced, they sang, embracing one another in a euphoric stance, under full glare of press cameras,” reports the staff writer of banglanews24.com.bd from the scene.

Most of the students did as they expected at the first public examination in their academic life.

Ideal came in third on the list of top ten under Dhaka Education Board, for that matter, nationwide, as per certain criteria set by government authorities.   The reputed institution of the country has maintained their crowning success at public examinations over the years.

A total of 919 examinees passed the exam out 921, which comes to 99.78 percent in success rate. Of them, 742 obtained GPA-5.

Two unfortunate students could not complete their examination because of physical ailments, which brought their percentage under cent percent after three years.

A total 640 students from Science group and 281 from Commerce group of Ideal took part in the examination under Dhaka board in February 2010.

The institution got third position with 92.52 score under the newly adopted grading system of institutions under set paradigm.

About the newly adopted creative question system Samiul Haque, an A+ obtainer, said, “The system was helpful in scoring my good marks in some subjects.”

Afsana Yasmin, mother of a GPA-5 obtainer, acknowledged the teachers’ contribution to the institution for this glorious result of her son.

“My son has done well because the teachers have given clear conception about the creative question that is new for the students,” she said.

Elated by the performance, the Principal of Ideal School and College, Dr Shahan Ara, said: “The timely class structure, labour of the examinees and teachers and awareness of the guardians were behind these magnificent results.”

Education Ministry published the results of SSC exams with a high pass percentage at 79.98. The exams were held in March under eight general education boards, a vocational board and a Madrasa board.
