Indian authorities have arrested seven people and temporarily suspended three police officials in connection with an attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India. 

West Tripura SP Kiran Kumar confirmed the matter on Tuesday (Dec 3). 

He said that the arrestees were identified as Jhuton Das, Ujjwal Das, Deeptaneel Bhowmik, Surya Das, Jhulan Malakar, Pradeep Saha, and Alok Majumder, were apprehended from various locations, including Golchakkar, Dashamighat, Abhoynagar, Ranikhamar, and Matabari.

Earlier, on Monday afternoon, activists of Hindu Sangharsh Samiti vandalized Bangladesh Assistant High Commission after entering the premises in Agartala. 

The incident became violent when the Hindutva organization activists gathered front of Bangladesh mission building protesting against alleged attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh.

Following the incident, three sub-inspectors were temporarily suspended for negligence in duty, and a case was filed by police at the New Capital Complex Police Station. 

SP Kumar said that an investigation is underway and assured that appropriate legal action will be taken.

Meanwhile, another group, Sanatani Yuva, has called for a "Bangladesh Chalo" campaign, demanding action against the alleged incidents in Bangladesh. The group staged a protest on Tuesday in front of the Rabindra Centenary Hall in Agartala.

To prevent further unrest, additional security measures have been implemented. The Akhaura border near Agartala has been fortified with personnel from both the BSF and Tripura police, and the road leading to the Bangladesh border has been barricaded.

In a related development, the Tripura Hotel Owners’ Association has announced that Bangladeshi nationals will not be provided services in hotels across the state. The decision, communicated through a formal notice, underscores growing tensions in the region.
