Election after necessary reforms: Nahid Islam

The next national election will be held based on a national consensus following necessary reforms, said Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT Advisor Md Nahid Islam.

He made this remark on Monday (November 4) during a meeting with Norway Ambassador to Dhaka Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen at the ICT Division office.

Nahid Islam said, “We achieved a new Bangladesh through the student-people’s uprising. For the past 16 years, the fascist regime has led the nation through irregularities and corruption. The interim government has begun the process of rebuilding the country.”

At this time, he also sought Norway's advice and cooperation in the nation’s reconstruction and noted that all reforms would be implemented in consultation with stakeholders.

In response, Ambassador Haakon Harald Gulbrandsen expressed Norway’s readiness to assist the interim government in reconstructing a new Bangladesh.

Nahid Islam further mentioned that the government aims to strengthen its development partnership with Norway and hopes for investment in the fields of ICT growth and media development.

When asked about minority rights and safety, ICT Advisor Md Nahid Islam assured that Bangladesh's minorities are safe, noting that special security measures were arranged for them during the recent Durga Puja, along with extended holidays.

"The previous fascist government used minorities as a political tool, treating them as a vote bank," he remarked.

Replying to a question regarding Cyber security Act, ICT Advisor Md Nahid Islam told ambassador that the law will be repealed within a week, and all cases filed under it will also be dismissed.
