Militant hideout busted in Rupganj

Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police busted a militant hideout at a house at Borpa in Rupganj of Narayanganj on Tuesday.

The ATU recovered three bombs from the den, but no militant was found.

Two of the bombs were powerful.

The cops made those inactive by exploding in soil adjacent to the house while the rest was blasted on the second floor of the residence, confirmed Sanwar Hossain, SP (Operations) of the ATU.

The SWAT and Bomb Disposal unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Narayanganj police helped the ATU in the raid.

The ATU suspected that the den was of the banned outfit Ansar Al Islam.

In the morning, on suspicion of the radical hideout, the ATU members cordoned off the four-storey building owned by a Saudi expatriate named Jakir Hossain.

Later, the SWAT and Bomb Disposal units accompanied the ATU.

The residents of different flats of the residence were evacuated to a safe place.

And at noon, the cops led by ATU SP Sanwar began the drive at the den at a flat on the second floor.

Sanwar told mass media that they raided the house after extracting information from a female militant who was arrested from Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

He said that they conducted a raid at a house in Netrokona and recovered some explosives and other things on 9 June.

Upon evidence and information from the drive, the cops also conducted some raids, including the Cox’s Bazar one.

Shah Newaz, a tenant of the house, said that a man in his 40's hired a flat on the second floor about three months back.

The man, his wife and two children—a son and a daughter—lived in the flat.

By the way, the man told him that he did a job in the Chittagong Road area.
