DHAKA: Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Anwar Hossain said that verdict against Quader Mollah is the reflection of the aspirations of the people who love country’s independence.

He came up with the reaction after the death sentence in the appellate division of High Court on Tuesday morning.

Anwar Hossain said, “Gonojagoron Moncho came into existence for the life sentence instead of death sentence of Quader Mollah. Today’s verdict is the result of their movement.”

Expressing his contentment over the verdict, he also thanked the Gonojagoron Moncho.

On February 5, Gonojagoron Moncho started their movement demanding capital punishment of Quader Mollah for his involvement with crimes against humanity.

As a result on February 17, International Crimes Tribunal (amendment) Bill was passed in the Parliament.

Earlier, the Appellate division on Tuesday sentenced Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah to death for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971

The Apex Court passed the verdict at 9:37am after concluding the hearing on appeals filed against inadequate sentencing and conviction of war criminal and Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah.

On February 5, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 sentenced Quader Mollah to life in prison for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
