DHAKA: A successful surgical operation was done on the windpipe of former BNP secretary-general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan Sunday for healing his breathing problems.

Confirming the operation Bhuiyan’s personal physician Dr Bazlul Gani Bhuiyan said a nine-member medical team led by Dr Sanwar conducted the operation for 30 minutes from 12noon for setting a tube in his windpipe to keep it risk-free.

Doctors placed a small tube permanently in the breathing canal in his throat to avoid any complexity and his health conditions remained unchanged in last 24 hours, said the doctor.

“Earlier on Saturday, doctors had to postpone the operation as there was not enough platelet in his blood,” said Gani.

The senior politician is on life-support system due to his inability to breathe normally. He has been undergoing treatment at the Square Hospital since he returned from Singapore.

Earlier, the former local government minister flew to Singapore on May 31 for treatment. He had undergone treatment at Singapore National University Hospital. He was given chemotherapy eight times there, said his family members.
