RAJSHAHI: Awami League General Secretary and LGRD Minster Syed Ashraful Islam Thursday said staging the trial of war criminal is now only a ‘matter of time’.

He made the comment while speaking as chief guest at a divisional rally organized here by Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling party, to demand the trial of war criminals and ban on the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami.

“The trial of war criminals will begin within a few days through submission of charge sheets against them before the court. Because now the countrymen want to see execution of the trial,” he added.

He said the government has already completed the revision of law, recruitment of investigation officers and the formation of tribunal. So the trial of war criminal is now a matter of time.

Criticizing the opposition BNP, Ashraful said that now they are “desperate to save the war criminals”.

He alleged the opposition is plotting to obstruct the trial by raising various issues.

State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak, also Organizing Secretary of Awami League, acting President of Jubo League Omar Faruk Chowdhury and General Secretary Mirza Ajam, among others, attended the rally.
