The International Crimes Tribunal today (December 5) issued a directive to remove all hate speech attributed to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has fled to India, from both traditional media and social media platforms.
In addition, the tribunal has imposed a ban on the dissemination of any such content by the fugitive Sheikh Hasina through these channels.
The tribunal has reportedly instructed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take immediate action in removing all instances of hate speech associated with her.
A three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal, chaired by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder issued the order. The other members of the panel are Justice Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution filed a petition with the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) seeking a ban on the dissemination of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s provocative statements through media and social platforms.
Prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman confirmed the matter on Thursday (December 5).
Earlier on August 5, Hasina fled to India amid a mass uprising and has been there since then.
Later, Dr Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, was named Bangladesh’s interim leader following Hasina’s resignation.
