DHAKA: Bangladesh Islami Front leaders Saturday urged the main opposition BNP to withdraw 27 June hartal and consider alternative prorgamme as shutdown slows down country’s development activities.

The plea came from a grand rally held at the historic Paltan Maidan in the capital with front Chairman Allama MA Mannan in the chair.

Criticizing the opposition party, Mannan reminded that they were committed in 2006 to the country’s people for not doing hartal politics.

He also lamented that war criminals are doing their activities continuously and they are counteracting to the trial.

“Their economic institutions like Islami Bank, Ibne Sina, Islami Bank Foundation and other clinics and organizations should be under government control,” said the Islamic leader.  

Leaders of the party demanded that the government should implement election manifestos, including the trial of war criminals, within the shortest possible time.

They also demanded increasing production of gas, solution of power crisis, lowering prices of essentials, and tackling terrorist activities and misinterpretation of Islam.

Presidium member Allama Sheikh Abdul Karim Shirajnagari, Organizing Secretary SUM Samad, Dhaka Metropolitan President MA Momen and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Sena President Syed Abu Azam, among others, addressed the rally.
