Moulvibazar: A mob Saturday attacked and wounded police and the plaintiff of a case and snatched away the accused from Imambazar in the district.

The wounded were police constable of Sadar Thana Obaidul Haque, 25, and plaintiff Siraj Mia, 35. They were sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital

Sources said a six-member team of police fell victim when they went to arrest Suruj Mia from Imambazar under Sadar upazila on Saturday noon.

“Relatives of the offender picked up an altercation with the police. At one stage of the quarreling, they pelted the policemen with brickbats and snatched the accused,” police said in a spot account of the incident.

Siraj Mia from Banika village near Imambazar filed a case against the defendant on May 13 with Moulvibazar Sadar Model Thana for vandalizing his car and hatchery.

Police have already arrested Ansar Mia of Kaliargaon village in the same case.
