7 killed as train hits auto-rickshaw in Cumilla 

Seven people traveling in an auto-rickshaw were killed and one injured after a train hit the vehicle in Burichang Upazila, Cumilla on Tuesday (November 26).

The accident occurred at an unauthorized railway crossing in Kalikapur of Bakshimul Union around 10 am.

The deceased were identified as Rafiq Mia, Lutfa Begum, Sanu Mia, Safarjan Begum, Al Amin Hosne Ara and Saju Mia, all residents of Bakshimul village in Burichang Upazila.

According to Burichang Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Haque, the Chattala Express (Subarna Express) train, departing from Chattogram, hit a passenger auto-rickshaw attempting to cross the illegal railway crossing in the Kalikapur area. Four passengers in the auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot, while four others sustained injuries. One of the injured passengers succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, and two died after reaching the hospital, he said.

He added that law enforcers are investigating the circumstances of the crash to determine the factors that led to the accident.
