Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian smuggled goods worth 8 crore 2 lakh taka at the border in the Gowainghat area of Sylhet. 

On Tuesday (November 5), a task force operation in the Radhanagar area led to the confiscation of these goods.

According to BGB, the operation was conducted based on secret information by the 48th BGB Battalion, magistrates, and police. 

The recovered items are - 2,907 pieces of Indian sarees, 1,162 pieces of Kashmiri shawls, 413 three-piece suits, 12,435 meters of various types of fabric, 1,160 meters of blazer fabric, 1,556 meters of sofa covers, 44,722 pieces of various creams, 1,669 pieces of Pond's face wash, 612 pieces of Johnson's baby lotion, 262,990 pieces of Brick's chocolate, 1,260 pieces of E-Cap tablets, and other Indian products.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman, commander of the 48 BGB Battalion confirmed the matter.

He said that BGB's operational activities and intelligence efforts to prevent smuggling are ongoing. As part of this, they conducted joint operations in the border area and seized the smuggled goods brought in from India. 

Necessary actions regarding the seized items have been taken according to regulations, he added.
