DHAKA: The parliamentary standing committee on Education Ministry affairs Monday decided to write to the premier and the finance minister for making special allocation for bringing more educational institutions under monthly payment order (MPO) this year.

The decision came from the 18th meeting of the committee at Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Rashed Khan Menon in the chair.

Sources said the meeting also discussed formulating an act for taking action against the institutions which are not following the MPO rules.

A competent source said the meeting discussed in detail granting MPO to non-government educational institutions in the current fiscal year.

“We have reached a consensus decision that at least 1,500 educational institutions should be enlisted for MPO within this year,” said one member of the committee.

The parliamentarians recommended taking initiative to reduce teacher crisis in government and non-government educational institutions.

The committee made a request to establishment and finance ministries so that the ministries give approval soon for appointing a third teacher for a subject in colleges as numbers of students are on the rise.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Whip Sheikh Abdul Wahab, Kazi Farruque Quader, Biren Sikder, Md Shah Alam and Momtaz Begum attended the meeting.
