RAJSHAHI:  Teachers and students Tuesday began celebrating the 57th founding anniversary of Rajshahi University, country’s one of the oldest public varsities, chalking out various programmes.

The University was established this day in 1953.

Vice-chancellor Dr. M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the day’s programme cutting a cake at the pulpit of the administrative building at about 9am.

University Public Relations Office sources said elaborate programmes would be staged on July 8 on the occasion. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid is likely to attend the programme as chief guest.

State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku and Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton will be special guests.

Cultural and voluntary organizations of RU will observe the day in a befitting manner.
