RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: The authorities concerned declared Rajshahi University (RU) closed for indefinite period after law enforcers and Chhatra League men attacked the demonstrating students.

The decision came from an emergency meeting of the Syndicate of the university held on Sunday evening.

The authorities also decided to vacate all the dormitories of the university and all the students were asked to leave their respective halls by 8:00am Monday.



Earlier in the day, over 100 students were injured as police charged batons and opened fire rubber bullets on the demonstrating students.

Of them, 18 people, including eight journalists sustained rubber bullet wounds, reports banglanews RU correspondent quoting witnesses.

On January, the demonstration started demanding cancellation decision of the university authorities of hiking fee and continuing the evening masters programs.



The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, also joined the law enforcers to foil the students` movement, said a competent source of the university.
