Students assembled in front of Dhaka University's central library at 10 am today to protest the reinstatement of the quota system in government jobs. 

They later moved to Shahbagh.

Students from various halls were seen gathering with banners in front of the library before marching to Shahbagh. 

Sarjis Alam, a DU student, stated, "Our movement is demanding quota reform. We want the quota to be reduced to five percent. If the government has any statement on this matter, they should make it."

The protest caused significant traffic disruptions, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill in areas including Paltan, Bijay Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, and Gulistan.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issued a four-week status quo today (July 10) on the issue of quotas in government jobs and the High Court's judgment. 

The Appellate Division has asked the protesting students to return to their classes and attend their exams, while instructing all university vice-chancellors to create a conducive environment for education.

According to some legal experts, the quota system will be suspended for four weeks following the Supreme Court's status quo order. 

Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan said, "We will hear the arguments from all the aggrieved students through their lawyers during the hearing of the leave to appeal petition against the High Court verdict. Enough is enough; go to the classes from the streets."
