Dhaka University (DU) is celebrating its 102nd founding anniversary today.

To mark the day, the university authorities have chalked out a number of programmes.

Teachers, students, alumni, officers and employees of the university brought out a rally under the leadership of the university Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman from Memory Eternal to Payra Chattar in front of Teacher-Student Centre this morning.

Other programmes of the day include hoisting of national, university and hall flags, flying of pigeons, balloons and festoons, cutting of cake and performing of university theme song with the participation of teachers and students of music department of the university.

Besides, a discussion meeting was held on "University of building Smart Bangladesh" with the Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair at TSC auditorium.

Dhaka University, which is considered the country's highest echelon for academic excellence, started its academic activities on July 1, 1921 with 12 departments, three faculties, 60 teachers, 877 students, three residential halls and about 600 acres of land.
