DHAKA: A seminar on ‘4G Mobile Communication System’ organized by Faculty of Engineering under University of Development Alternative (UODA) was held at its Dhanmondi campus in the city on November 16.

Professor Dr RI Sharif, Dean Faculty of Engineering, inaugurated the seminar, said press release of the faculty.

In his inaugural speech, he said the whole world is now a village through the effective use of ICT. In most developing countries, access to ICT based information is very limited, but we will have to have tried to implement it in our country for our next generation.

He also mentioned that in order to develop, implement and efficiently use ICT based activities, proper skills and manpower must be produced to build information and knowledge based system.

Skilled workers are needed to set up a communication network and use the technology (both hardware and software), along with providing maintenance and servicing. Unfortunately, we don`t have sufficient trained manpower to look after maintenance and servicing of the equipment/ machineries required for ICT.

The 4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communication technology standards. It is a successor to the third generation (3G) standards.

A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphone, and to other mobile devices.

Conceivable applications include amended mobile web access, IP telephony, gaming services, high-definition mobile TV, video conferencing, 3D television, and cloud computing.

Ahmedul Quadir, Software Developer, LTE, Ericsson AB, Sweden gave his technical presentation in the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, Syed Foysol Islam, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, said learning about the upcoming telecommunication technologies.

He also mentioned to adapt the recent trends that can be accessible for all telecommunication and mobile operators.
