Meat, soyabean oil prices fixed for Ramadan: oil Tk 80 per kg, local beef Tk 250, mutton Tk 350 a kg

DHAKA: A piece of good news for the city-dwellers: buy pure soybean oil at Tk 80, local beef Tk 250 and mutton Tk 350 per kilogram during Ramadan.

The rates for the much-consumed essentials for the upcoming month of fast and festivals have been fixed by government authorities.

Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Thursday fixed the maximum prices of different variety of meat to be sold in the city during Ramadan.

As per the decision, mutton has to be sold at Tk 350 per kg, lamb-meat Tk 300, local beef Tk 250, foreign beef and buffalo-meat at Tk 220 a kg from the first day to the 27th of Ramadan.

Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka set the prices in a meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan Meat Traders Association (DMMTA) at Nagar Bhaban.

The Mayor urged the traders to sell meats with “minimum profit and due weight” in serving the pious people.

Traders requested the mayor to develop the sewerage system at Gabtali cattle market.

The Mayor also assured them of establishing four modern slaughterhouse centers in the city.

Chief Executive Officer of DCC Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Engineer Abdul Kader, DCC Secretary Md. Shamsuzzaman and representatives of the meat traders, among others, attended the meet.

In another development, the commerce ministry in a meeting Thursday also set price ceiling of different types of Soybean oil.
The meeting set the price of per-kilogram soybean (loose) at TK 76, palm super (loose) TK 72 and Palm oil (loose) TK 69 at mill gate.
 
At retail level, the maximum price of per-kilo soybean (loose) would be TK 80, palm super (loose) TK 76 and palm oil (loose) TK 73.

“The decision will be effective from Friday next,” says the meeting decision.

FBCCI representatives, Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Banaspati Manufacturers Association President MA Rouf Chowdhury, and Oil Mill Owners and Importers attended the meeting with commerce secretary Md. Golam Hossain in the chair.
