LONDON (UK): Panic is running high among Bengali people as around 30 Bangladeshi immigrants were held by United Kingdom Border Agency from capital’s Whitechapel area on Thursday.
UK Border Agency’s raid has been beefed up to capture illegal immigrants after “Go Home” campaign declared illegal by Advertising Standard Authority.
However on Thursday, a group of 140-police raided in Whitcahpel area of London and held 30 Bangladeshi nationals from there.
The raid is now “Talk of the community” as it spread out panic among legal and illegal expatriates.
So the Bangladeshi community is concerned about the recent unexpected raids by the border agency as well as police. The community people termed such drives as attacking and painful.
Many Bangladeshi nationals approached in UK with a dream to see them from rags to riches but are facing immense sufferings for new and newer strict immigration rules and regulations.
The illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who entered the country by student visa or work permit visa are not high on the hog.
Though the scenario is not new in the city but it has pressed an extreme situation in the city. These drives covered tube stations, streets or even at workplaces.
The people residing in the city are in real mental pressure about the legacy, work permit. Experts opined that racism would be increased in the Britain’s multi-nations society through this campaign and raid.
Though UK Home Office confirmed that the campaign titling “Go home” was not aiming to hurt anyone’s feelings and the campaign was paused on special consideration.
Moreover 106 illegal immigrants were held in the first week of July this year from different places of London.
The campaign showed a poster displayed a picture of handcuffs and read: "In the UK illegally?... GO HOME OR FACE ARREST."
The campaign saw two vans drive around London for a week in July.
During the campaign, the advertising vans drove around the London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Barnet, Brent, Ealing and Hounslow, some of the most diverse areas of the capital where it is thought a lot of illegal immigrants live and work.
