Atlantis the Lost City

DHAKA: Have you ever heard the name of Socrates? He was the torchbearer of civilization. He was born in 463 BC in the ancient Greece. He is called the teacher of those who know.

He had a number of disciples. The world famous philosopher Plato (427-347 BC) was also one of them. People call him the sparkling light of knowledge because of his great wisdom.

One day hearing his visit at Athens in Greece, many people gathered in the said square (open field) coming from far to see him at a glance. As soon as he was introduced among the present crowd, he could draw the attention of them with due honor.

There he delivered an uncommon historical speech. He told them about the lost continent named ‘Atlantis’. The above picture indicates the lost city. He also wrote the tragic happening of the city. He raised a brief history of the ‘Lost City’ along with the temptation, vice (sin), pride, wrongdoing, bloody conflicts and deception of the city people. Their temptation and inhuman-activities led them to damnation.

Though the citizens of the continent were inherited with a huge wealth and pleasure, they were not at all satisfied with those activities. Plato wrote that they had endless demands and lusts.

The whole country became clouded with the tyranny and the oppression of the rich men and the powerful leaders of the city over the poor and the helpless people. Plato said that this very country illegally used to fight against Greece and Egypt and invaded (conquered) it.

Watching these sinful acts, the Greek gods and goddess became very angry and furious upon the citizen of Atlantis. They wanted to teach the citizen a good lesson. So, they did not wait for long.

One day, the God of Power brought huge waves and tides over the Atlantis and plunged it under the ocean (Atlantic Ocean) within a few minutes. Thus, the whole continent was perished forever from the glove.

Plato depicted that the Atlantis was a very rich continent. Citizens of the continent were very much fond of gold. They used to mark the end of their roads with gold. They had a number of ‘Palaces’ and all of them were built with costly stones, pearls and gold.

But at the end, their prides, prejudices (superstitions/blind beliefs), sinful acts and temptation went beyond all the limits. So, the gods and goddess could not tolerate (bear) it. So, they brought devastating earthquake and giant waves that ransacked (destroyed) the whole continent. Now, it is in the womb of the salty Atlantic Ocean.

Nobody wants to disagree with the opinion of the generous Plato. Scientists say that many of the Plato’s stories or fables were first seemed to be appeared false, but at the end, it came to true. So, why will the legend of Plato be false or ignored?

Cerrito, one of the disciples of Plato, said that he heard about the lost city, Atlantis, from his grandfather and the grandfather heard it from his friend named Solon.

Solon collected the news from a priest.

In the book ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea’ Captain Nemo discovered the Atlantis-Island under the ocean while exploring by submarine.

But at present, many questions automatically arise. Was there any existence of Atlantis-Island in the world? Did Plato only advise and warn the people not to be derailed (wrong path)? Is it a myth (story that originated in the ancient time) or legend (one that may not be true like Robin Hood)?

On the other hand, many explorers have been ploughing the ocean to discover the Plato’s lost city, Atlantis, years after years.

D. Jorgen, a German archeologist, claims that he could find a great wall of about 30 feet under the water near the main land of Britain in 1953. He measured the length of the wall. It is 1,012 yards long according to him.

D. Spanaoth also explored there and could collect a heavy ‘Bracelet’ of gold.

Actually, the expeditors (adventurers) become partially confirmed about the position of the lost city, and it is nowhere but near the British Main Land.

The expeditors have been still continuing their exploration to the suspected coastal regions of the North Atlantic Ocean leaving their all comforts.

Their main object is to discover the real history of the lost city, Atlantis, at any cost. The above picture indicates the wealth of the city.
