No vacancy in Malaysia

FROM SELENGER, MALAYSIA: Recently Malaysia Government has announced to recruit 15-lakh workers from Bangladesh under B2B arrangement.

But the Trade Union in Malaysia has told that there is no vacancy for workers of such number.

Malaysian special committee of Bar council member and Migrants, Refugees and Immigration affairs chairman Datuk M. Ramachelvam recently disclosed this fact in a meeting of South East Asian mixed migrants regional citizen committee.

In the keynote paper, Ramachelvam disclosed that 29-lakh legal workers are working here while it is supposed that 40-lakh illegal workers are staying here. Malaysia has scope for 1.40-crore workers belonging to both migrants and local.

Ramachelvam informed that recently Bangladesh and Malaysian governments have announced that 15-lakh more workers will be brought to Malaysia under B2B but unfortunate so far it is learnt that there is no scope to employ such a huge number of workers at present. The country’s Trade unions also opposed this.

He thinks that Malaysia government should first give legality to the illegal workers here. Bringing of new workers will only benefit the agents and the agencies who will obtain approval.

He said that the Malaysian government should first give legal status to 40-lakh illegal workers.

After the meeting, he told banglanews that import of workers should be done through G2G. In this case, the experience of the Philippines can be used. In the Philippines, the government is sending skilled manpower after proper interview. In that country, the private agents are supplying workers to the government.

As reason of failure of G2G arrangement, he pointed out that at present the Malaysian economy is moving downward. Because the market of Palm oil is very dull. Moreover, the there are enormity of Indonesian workers in the Palm oil orchard.

He told that this B2B will create the situations like 2007 and 2010 when Bangladeshis had to sleep on the streets in Malaysia.

Seven private organizations arranged this regional conference. Regional coordinator of Asia Harun-al-Rashid gave the inaugural speech.
